Overview Edit

The Triptych is the third full-length album by Demon Hunter which was released October 25, 2005. Produced by Aaron Sprinkle (Emery, Fair) and mixed by Machine (Lamb of God), The Triptych boasts three different album covers—inspired by the album's title (see triptych)--by renowned painter Dan Seagrave (Morbid Angel, Suffocation).

The album hit the #1 position on the Billboard's Heatseekers chart during its first week of release in stores and was re-released on October 31, 2006.

Vocalist Ryan Clark described in an interview that, while the previous two albums had him record vocals with a standing, screened microphone, for The Triptych, he used a basic handheld mic. This allowed him to move around freely and hold longer notes; however, it also allowed Clark to naturally cup the mic which consequently muffled or distanced his vocals.

Having been a fan of Demon Hunter since their self-titled album, I have to say that this is easily the best of their three albums. Basically, it combines what I view as the best aspects of the first two albums. The first album had a very focused sound, with ten tracks (nine songs, one intermission-type affair), but had less-than-perfect production. Summer of Darkness sounded much cleaner; however, it felt unfocused, as the guest singers and the number of songs (13) distorted the clarity of the a…

3 stars If you already own the original, don't bother...
Demon Hunter is my favourite band. Period. However, this special edition was very disappointing for me, as I already own the original release of The Triptych. It has a few extra acoustic tracks (which I never care for anyway) and some poorly remixed favourites that were perfect already. The making of was ineresting, but unsatisfying.

I regret purchasing this, if not for the simple addition to my fan collection, and never even pull it out anymore.

RECOMMENDATION: If you already own the original…
