Biography

Edit

New wave/post punk band Devo are noted for their surreal and satirical sense of humour and kitch sci-fi image. Their first album Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! (1978) was produced by Brian Eno and acclaimed by critics. Despite their off-the-wall antics, Devo did acheive a Top 20 hit in 1980 with "Whip It", which included a video popular with new TV channel MTV. Devo's wacky synth-pop attracted a cult following and for a short time was influential, but they proved to be a one-trick pony who weren't capable of much progression. After their output ground to a halt in the early 90s, the members pursued other projects: co-founder Mark Mothersbaugh being the most successful, composing soundtracks to films such as Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums.
