Diddy is a UK-born house music DJ and producer aka DJ Richard Dearlove. He is best known for the track “Give Me Love” and not being Puffy anything, or anyone called Combs.
In 1993 Richard Dearlove decided to pursue a full time music career. As Diddy he released his debut track “Small World”, which brought him to the attention of EMI/Positiva. They released the follow-up “Give Me Love” which became a hit in the UK when it became popular with DJs Graham Gold and Danny Rampling. They started playing it on their shows on Kiss FM and it made the Top 30 of the UK charts.
The success got him noticed and he was approached to remix Blondie’s 1980 hit “Atomic”. The remix topped the Billboard Dance charts and more remix requests followed. He was soon in demand from a variety of companies and he has since done remixes of artists including Robert Palmer and Donna Summer.
Diddy teamed up with DJ Daz Saund to form the Daz&Didz label which releases house tracks by themselves and other artists. He has also had success with DJ Alan Thompson performing as Bedlam.
In 2005 Dearlove locked horns with P. Diddy when he announced he was going to drop the ‘P’. As Dearlove had long been performing as Diddy in the UK, he won battle, and in addition to a cash settlement, any releases in the UK by Diddy are exclusively by Richard Dearlove.
