The Knack's Doug Fieger Dies
Feb, 15 2010
Recent sad news reveals that Doug Fieger, front man of American New Wave band, The Knack, died at his home on Valentine’s Day following a long battle with cancer. Most people will associate Fieger with Sharona, the girlfriend about whom he wrote the song, “My Sharona”, and with which his band conquered the charts in 1979. So popular was the song, that it has remained in the minds of the public ever since, long after The Knack fell prey to new musical trends and slipped from the charts. In a recent interview with the Detriot News, Fieger had said “Everybody knows they're going sooner or later. I don't know any better than anyone else when I'm going. I've had 10 great lives. And I expect to have some more. I don't feel cheated in any way, shape or form."
A statement on the Knack’s official website said “Our hearts are broken, we will miss you, Doug”, and many have echoed that sentiment, with tributes flooding in from people across the world who have been touched by his music.
