Overview Edit

The Chronic is the debut solo studio album of hip hop producer and rapper Dr. Dre, released December 15, 1992 on his former own label, Death Row Records, and distributed by Priority Records. Recording sessions for the album took place in June 1992 at Death Row Studios in Los Angeles, California and at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood, California. The album was named after a slang term for high-grade marijuana. The album cover is a homage to Zig-Zag rolling papers. Dr. Dre's production has been noted for founding and popularizing the G-funk sub-genre within gangsta rap. The Chronic has been widely regarded as one of the most important and influential albums of the 1990s and regarded by many fans and peers to be the most well-produced hip hop album of all time. In 2003, the album was ranked number 137 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

5 stars Inspiring and genuine; a timeless classic.
The first shot fired in the G-Funk hip-hop revolution, Dr. Dre's The Chronic withstands the test of time. Originally released way back in 1992, it was the first release from Suge Knight's Deathrow Records label. Despite being recorded seven years ago, back when the hip-hop ear was very different, The Chronic seems to sound fresh and new every time it is played. The album not only was popular with hip-hop fans though, because it sold four million copies. Not only that, it launched the careers of …

2 stars I find this a waste of money
(NOTE : 2008 Update on review) Just like Doggystyle Dual Disc, I find this Dual Disc re-release to be a complete waste of money. I feel That The DVD side was lacking when it came to the videos. I would think that the videos would have the explicit song dubbed over. And I thought that they would add some remixes album's singles. Not only that but just like Doggystyle Dual Disc, the digi pack packaging falls apart way too easily and the videos appear on the later released 15 Years on Death Row whi…
