Dropkick Murphys are a Celtic punk band made up of working-class boys from Boston’s Quincy area. Musical influences which include The Pogues, The Clash and the Swinging Utters have helped the Murphys stay focused on issues important to their hard-working, blue-collar fanbase.
Dropkick Murphys have released six studio albums in their 11 year career but it is their most recent The Meanest of Times that has seen them break the Top 20 in the charts. They have released many singles but their best known was a remake of the unofficial Boston Red Sox’s theme song “Tessie”: “Last Letter Home” was inspired by solider Sgt Andrew Farrar’s last letters home to his family before his death in Iraq in 2005. “I'm Shipping Up to Boston” was also widely heard after featuring in Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning film The Departed.
