Duncan Sheik is a US-born award-winning singer and songwriter whose work can be heard from Billboard to Broadway.
Sheik had been playing in bands since High School and after graduating from University he moved from the East to the West Coast to pursue a career in music. He eventually got a record contract with Atlantic Records and launched his debut in 1996. The Duncan Sheik album made the Top 100 of the Billboard charts due, in part, to the success of the single “Barely Breathing”. He has had commercial success with subsequent releases, including the Humming album, which had a hit “Bite Your Tongue”, and Daylight which gave him a No.1 on the Hot Dance Club Play charts with “On a High”.
Sheik teamed up with Stephen Sater, a New York playwright, for Phantom Moon, and Spring Awakening. The latter was a musical which earned Sheik a Tony Award, while the soundtrack album received 2008’s Best Musical Show Album Grammy. Sheik himself has turned towards acting with the film A Home at the End of the World, for which he also provided two songs.
