Biography

Edit

Emilíana Torrini Davíðsdóttir is an Icelandic singer-songwriter and sometime member of the band GusGus born in 1977.

Her career began in the late 90s. She had already recorded three albums in Iceland, Spoon (1994), Crouçie D'où Là (1995) and Merman (96) when her music found its way into the hands of One Little Indian Records. She was asked to move to the UK to record. The result was 1999’s breakthrough and critically acclaimed album, Love in the Time of Science, recorded with the help of Roland Orzabal of Tears For Fears.

In 2002 she was asked to fill in for a pregnant Björk in order to sing the end credits, “Gollum’s Song” for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Although she is more known for the fragile and ethereal beauty of her songcraft, her versatility was apparent when she co-wrote Kylie Minogue’s “Slow”.

Her most recent album is 2005’s Fisherman’s Woman which contains the singles “Lifesaver”, “Sunny Road” and “Heartstopper”. Recognition of her success in her home country followed in 2006 when she won three Awards in the Icelandic Music Awards.
