Christmas Lights Hero

The holiday season seems to present some nosy neighbors with an irresistible opportunity to engage in one-upmanship with others in their street: every year the Christmas decorations get more elaborate until only those prepared to draw an electrical current close to the output of China are able to compete. This year, one household has trumped pretty much the entire world’s efforts with its unique take on Guitar Hero. Ric Turner’s day job used to be as a special effects specialist with Disney and he has turned his considerable talents to the creation of “Christmas Lights Hero.” This spectacular show involves over 21,000 lights and seven light controllers, which when combined afford him the opportunity to play Eric Johnson’s “White Cliffs of Dover” in his own front yard. As he plays the song, various collections of lights adorning his house, garage and garden light up in a dazzling synchronized display. The literally house-bound game is probably the ultimate in festive light shows, and no doubt attracts the attention of curious gaming fans from miles around. There’s no word on what Eric Johnson thinks about this new vision of his Grammy Award-winning song; we reckon he’s lying low for now until he can stake a claim on the high score leader board.
