Every so often, a song comes along that's so exquisite and so attuned to your own heart that no matter how often you hear it, you can never get enough of it. I've found such a song in "My Immortal." I actually wept the first time it played for me.

Such a dear little EP- wherein Evanescence generously offers three different renditions of that beautiful song: the Album version (from "Fallen"), the Band version (which adds only a tidbit of edge), and a Live version. All three are quite wonderful. Then, additionally, there's to be found another featured track- "Haunted"- which, by some magic, speaks sublimely direct to me as well! That song, however, turns out not being the soft plaintive ballad that is "My Immortal": rather, it's a dark, reproachful and entrancing piece- and a lyrically engaging rendering, at that.

For me, reviewing music is extremely difficult - as a song's substance can be, more than anything else, uniquely personal and deeply subjective. Every body has their flavour. I happen to embrace things soft, spiritual, passionate, and dark. Most assuredly, this Import contains each of those qualities.

An intensely emotional song, something delicate and rare, "My Immortal" is so much more than just poignant poetry from a gothic rock band that's been overplayed on the radio. Softly and deftly, Amy Lee's ethereal vocals capture the feeling heart of the words that she sings - just like the groundless soul of a caged spirit, crying out...

This CD contains 3 versions of My Immortal (the orignal, the band version that is currently being played on MTV, and a live version from Cologne). In addition to that they also include a live taping of Haunted.

The differences between the original and the band versions of this song are very minute. Basically, in the band version the guitars and drums kick in right before the last chorus and only stick around for approximately 30 seconds. And considering that this is such a soft song, the live version isn't much different from the original either. However, the live version of Huanted was pretty good. But I wouldn't say that it makes this CD worth it's price.

If you already own Fallen, then this might not be the Evanescence CD-single for you. You might want to check out their Going Under Import CD-single. That one has a great Nirvana cover of Heart Shaped Box and is, in my opinion, worth the price.
