Joe Cartagena released his debut album Represent in 1993, under the name Fat Joe Da Gangsta. It featured the Hot Rap Singles chart-topper "Flow Joe" and established his reputation enough to justify a second album. Jealous One's Envy (1995) featured a guest spot from KRS One and further boosted his reputation, leading to a collaboration with LL Cool J. After signing a bigger deal with Atlantic Records, third album Jealous Ones Still Envy (J.O.S.E.) (2001) was Fat Joe's biggest success. Produced by Irv Gotti, and featuring appearances from stars like Ja Rule, Ashanti and Busta Rhymes, it went on to sell over a million copies. It also included Fat Joe's biggest solo single to date: "What's Luv" was a Top 5 hit in the UK, and stayed at No.2 on the US Hot 100 for five weeks.
The follow-up, Loyalty (2002), was a disappointment, but Fat Joe was not defeated. In 2004 his side-project group, the Terror Squad, had a No. 1 hit with their single "Lean Back". That helped the accompanying Terror Squad album, True Story, achieve gold-selling status. Fat Joe's next solo album was All Or Nothing (2005), which again featured guest raps from big names like R. Kelly, Eminem and Nelly. Me, Myself and I followed in 2006, while in the same year Fat Joe provided the voice for the animated character Seymour in Happy Feet.
