Algerian rai with a western twistFaudel's album is Algerian rai music, but it's not pure rai. It draws upon other musical forms, like traditional oriental (belly dance) music, flamenco, R&B, pop, and even hiphop.Although Faudel is extremely popular back East, his voice doesn't appeal to me personally. Nevertheless, don't think I'm saying he's bad. He's not. He's a very talented rai singer with a sweet, soft voice. I just prefer a raunchier-sounding voice, like that of his fellow rai singer, Rachid Taha.
