Feeder is a British rock band formed in 1992. The current members are Grant Nicholas, Taka Hirose and Mark Richardson who replaced the original drummer, Jon Lee after his suicide in 2002.
The band was formed when friends Nicholas and Lee recruited Hirose and moved to London to find a record deal. Their first release was the limited issue Two Colours EP (1995). In 1996 they released a second EP Swim which helped to a build a fanbase which readied itself for their first full length debut Polythene (1997). Four singles, ("Tangerine", "Cement", "Crash" and "High"), made a modest but respectable showing in the UK charts and earned them comparisons with The Smashing Pumpkins. They embarked on tours, including a long period in America spent promoting the album.
The follow-up album was 1999's Yesterday Went Too Soon which was warmly received by the critics. "Buck Rogers" was the first track released from their hotly anticipated third album, Echo Park (2001) and its success helped to propel its parent album into the top five of the UK album charts. Like its lead single, the album was a more commercial effort than their previous releases, but the success of the album was marred by the suicide of Lee in January 2002. The band withdrew, although they did vow to continue. By October they had recruited Richardson and together they released Comfort in Sound, thematically inspired by the tragic event of that year. The album was well received by both critics and fans and achieved platinum certification.
Pushing the Senses was released in 2005 and while it represented a growth in sound from the lyrical themes of Comfort in Sound, it found detractors among long time fans and critics.
Their most recent release is 2006's The Singles which contains three new tracks. A new album has been discussed but no release date has been mentioned.
