Leslie Feist is a Canadian singer-songwriter who rose to national prominence in 2007 after her single "1234" was featured in an iPod commercial, and became a Top 10 hit in the US, UK and Canada. Other than her solo career, she is also a member of Toronto indie-rock collective Broken Social Scene.
As well as collaborating on the first three Broken Social Scene albums, including the breakthrough You Forgot It In People and the bigger-selling Broken Social Scene, Leslie Feist has established herself as a solo star using her last name.
In February 1999 Feist was guitarist for Canadian indie-rock band By Divine Right when they released Bless This Mess. Seven months later she self-released her first solo album as a singer-songwriter, Monarch (Lay Your Jewelled Head Down), but it was largely ignored by the press and public. After contributing vocals to Broken Social Scene's debut album Feel Good Lost, her biggest success yet came when the aforementioned You Forgot It In People was raved about by music critics. Moving to Paris, she recorded her next solo release; Let It Die was released in 2004 to warm reviews, award nominations and 100,000 sales in Canada. After assisting Broken Social Scene again with their eponymous third album in 2005, she focussed on her third solo album. The Reminder was released in 2007 to more favourable reviews, and became a sleeper hit after two tracks, "My Moon My Man" and "1234", were picked up for national TV adverts.
