Overview Edit

America Town is officially the second studio album by singer/songwriter John Ondrasik (Five For Fighting), a follow up to the 1997 release Message For Albert. The album features remakes of two songs off Message For Albert, “Love Song” and “The Last Great American”, as well as the popular single, “Superman (It’s Not Easy)”. Intelligently written piano and soft-rock drum beats make up the core the album, for which John plays most of the instruments. America Town not only shows John’s knack for creating a catchy pop song, but also his musicianship and knowledge of each instrument he plays as a whole. America Town puts together all the musical elements of each song with great production and the mature and interesting lyrics written by John, with the songs “Bloody Mary (A Note On Apathy)” and “Out Of Love” written by Gregg Wattenberg. A well-composed lull of quiet yet complex melodies, America Town is a strong forerunner to later Five For Fighting hits such as “100 Years” and “The Riddle”.

Five For Fighting (FFF) has a knack for writing songs that were probably based on him sitting around a piano, and then adding other instruments in when recording. Well, "throwing them in" takes…

Five for Fighting has created a sweet mix of sounds on "America Town." "Easy Tonight" starts slow with piano & guitar and then blasts loose on the electric chorus, "Shotfun fire -- anybody home? I got 2 dimes in the telephone." "Bloody Mary (A Note on Apathy)" is a midtempo track with churning guitar. The blockbuster track is "Superman" with a distinctive melody that builds from ballad to anthem, "I'm only a man in a phony red shirt; I'm only a man looking for a dream." The title track starts mi…
