Biography

Edit

Flogging Molly are an Irish/US Irish folk/punk band formed in LA by singer-songwriter Dave King. The band cite The Pogues as an important influence in their music.

King met fiddler Bridget Regan in an Irish pub, Molly Malones, in LA. They were joined by more musicians until they became a seven-piece. The other band members are guitarist Dennis Casey, accordionist Matt Hensley, bassist Nathen Maxwell, mandolin player Bob Schmidt and drummer George Schwindt.

The band recorded their debut album in Molly Malones to capture the energy of their live performance. Alive Behind the Green Door was released in 1997. The first studio album 2000's Swagger provided the track "Salty Dog' which was used in the Pirates of the Caribbean film. Of their next albums, 2002's Drunken Lullabies and 2004 Within a Mile From Home, the latter was more successful, reaching No. 20 on the Billboard Chart.
