Frankie Valli's solo career is intertwined with his parallel career with The Four Seasons - both ventures have been very successful for him.
Inspired by Frank Sinatra, a young Valli signed his first record deal in 1953 and released his first single "My Mother's Eyes" soon after. His early releases failed to make an impact, but when he joined up with a group of singers called the Variety Trio (who eventually became The 4 Seasons in 1960) he finally scored a hit with "Sherry" in 1962. The group went on to have 16 Top 40 hits and 12 charting albums in the next three years.
Valli's solo career was re-launched alongside the success of the group in 1965 when he released "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine (Anymore)" but with two of the Four Season's singles in the charts at the same time, the solo track failed to chart. He had to wait until 1966 for "(You're Gonna) Hurt Yourself" to top the charts. His real peak came in 1967, when "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" hit the charts and his debut album, Frankie Valli: Solo, followed it. Subsequent albums have established Valli as a torch bearer for the easy listening genre and have met with varying degrees of success throughout his long career, not least of which was his two million seller title track for the Grease movie.
