Kapranos Not Lovin' It
Jan, 26 2010
Before he was a rock star, Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos was a chef, and in 2006 he combined his love of food with his new-found necessity to travel the world by writing a book called Sound Bites about the delicacies he tried on tour. Despite their availability almost everywhere, Big Macs weren't prominently featured, and now Kapranos is angry that one of his songs has being used to promote McDonalds.
"This is an example of how a band falls out with their US label. Did they think we'd approve this s***?" Kapranos tweeted last week, including a URL to a McDonalds site which now appears to be inaccessible. "I'd rather eat a cow-pat on a bun than a bloody McDonalds," he added, before redirecting his ire towards "Sony who owns Epic who release our records in America."
The anger didn't last long, as Kapranos made a joke of it: "I'm just p***ed off because I had a sponsorship deal with White Castle on the cards which is now totally scuppered." So that's where he prefers to go when he sings "Take me out, tonight!"
