The rock/pop singer-songwriter and musician Gavin DeGraw was born in New York in 1977. After leaving Berklee College, he went back to New York to hone his skills playing the Manhattan club circuit. DeGraw got his breakthrough when the track "I Don't Want to Be" was used as the theme tune for TV series One Tree Hill. This helped propel the Chariot album to platinum sales, while the single "Chariot" made the top 40 of the Hot 100 and also went platinum. An unplugged version of the album, 2004's Chariot Stripped got into the top 100 of the Billboard 200.
In addition to his commercial success he has received a Billboard and Radio Music Award nominations for single of the year for "I Don't Want to Be".
