Biography

Edit

Golden Smog are a US-based alt rock band who formed in the late 1980s as a side project for members of other bands, but who actually became a successful project in their own right.

Golden Smog was formed by members of Wilco, Soul Asylum and the Jayhawks, among others. Originally they played a few gigs a year, performing covers of the Eagles, the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, and others. Their 1992 record debut, the On Golden Smog EP was a compilation of covers, but over time they had enough new material to produce two albums of original work in 1995 and 1998. With different members of the group each contributing songs and tracks, the albums were described as somewhat patchwork.

With playing together over the years, the group’s return to the studio in 2006 produced more cohesive albums. Reviews for Another Fine Day and Blood on the Slacks have been good.
