Overview Edit

Black Cherry is the second album by British electronic duo Goldfrapp. It was released by Mute Records on 28 April 2003 in the United Kingdom to generally positive reviews. Many critics complimented its blend of retro and modern electropop music, which was a departure from the ambient sound of their debut. Black Cherry was a top twenty album in Goldfrapp's native United Kingdom, and its second single "Strict Machine" was a top twenty single.

The album represented a change in Goldfrapp's musical style, and featured glam rock and synthpop music; inspirations were disco music group Baccara and techno artist Hakan Lidbo. In August 2005, the album was certified platinum in the UK, and had sold nearly 500,000 copies worldwide as of May 2005.

I immediately liked the funky industrial beats, mixed with pixie glitter, sweet voices, orchestra backgrounds, lively rhythm and how the music grabbed my by my hair and slipped into my brain. I was hooked!

Goldfrapp reminds me of another band called LadyTron. I have been introduced to electronic music a few years ago, but mostly stuff such as Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis. They had no words, so lis…

3 stars happy hands
This album can be broken into two parts. It has 3 songs that have a similar feel and spaciness to them. Hairy Trees, Deep Honey, and Forever. These three songs sound similar to the band that made the Felt. They are also my favourite 3 songs on the album because they have the same slow pace and angelic feel that much of the Felt displayed. The Electronic lullaby if you will. the rest of the album is a little more up-tempo and/or uses more synths or harder (harsher?) sounding noises and sounds. Th…
