Overview Edit

Live in Buffalo: July 4th, 2004 is the first live performance released by the Goo Goo Dolls. It includes a CD and a DVD, showing their concert in Buffalo, New York from July 4, 2004, which is Independence Day in the United States. The concert included performances of all their major hits, including "Iris", "Name", and "Slide". There are nineteen (19) songs on the DVD total, plus a studio version of their Supertramp cover, "Give A Little Bit" on the CD.

The concert was shot and recorded in downtown Buffalo on Niagara Square in front of Buffalo City Hall.

As for the concert itself, the performance was enigmatic; garnering comparisons to the Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense from members of the band's crew. Over 60,000 fans attended the performance, braving a torrential downpour. That day in July was the worst rainstorm Buffalo had seen in over 20 years. The rain cleared in time for the Goo Goo Dolls to start the show, but during their performance of "January Friend", the rain began pouring down again, harder than before. The band played on, finishing the set, despite being pulled off stage briefly for a safety precaution and skipping three songs* that were on the original set list.

5 stars You Wont Be Dissapointed
For those of you who like the Goo Goo Dolls- and live concert DVDs you wont be dissapointed. If you have HDTV-and in particular a large screen- run and get this. Most of the other reviews failed to point out this was specially filmed in HDTV.

The surprise of thid DVD is the rain- I mean it poured on the 4th of July in Buffalo and they didnt stop the concert or dissapoint the thousands that came to see the band. The fact that Buffalo is home and their families and friends were all there probably…

3 stars Live albums are too popular with hardly any done right
This review refers to the CD recording.

It seems that every band is making Live albums to pump more money out of their careers. This is unfortunate for most of these albums are poorly produced.

It's great that the Goo Goo Dolls take the live album from their hometown performance in Buffalo. The band has a lot of energy, and so does the crowd. But unfortunately, all of this contributes to a terribly produced live album (never thought I would describe any Goo Goo Dolls album as terrible).
