I've noticed that lately my music tastes have gravitated towards bands that aren't commercially successful, but have constantly produced quality music. I consider Under the Western Freeway one of the best albums that I own because its just great music. Grandaddy experiments with different sounds and styles, but they play their music with emotion, great intensity in some songs and a sweet sadness in others. I can see how this experimental nature may turn some listeners off from their music, but I think it's great that the band just plays what it wants to. Nowadays it seems some bands and singers seek to use music to create an image so it's refreshing to hear a group that displays sincerity and passion for their music.

AM180 - Great song, catchy tune

Nonphenomenal Lineage - I love the guitar in this

Everything beautiful Is Far Away

"Nonphenomenal Lineage" (3/5): A decent opener.

"A.M. 180" (5/5): This song is simply amazing.

"Collective Dreamwish Of Upper Class Elegance" (3/5): A nice laid-back tune.

"Summer Here Kids" (4/5): This song boasts an awesome chorus.

"Laughing Stock" (4/5): Jason's vocal talents are shown here.

"Under The Western Freeway" (2/5): The first song that i just flat out don't like.

"Everything Beautiful Is Far Away" (3/5): Not a bad song, just not great.

"Poisoned At Hartsy Thai Food" (2/5): Another song that just doesn't float my boat.

"Go Progress Chrome" (3/5): An average song.

"Why Took Your Advice" (3/5): This song's not bad, but again, nothing memorable.

"Lawn And So On" (3/5): Not a horrible closer, but could have been better.

Grandaddy is a good band. Unfortunately, i don't really think this is a great album. I've seen them put on a great show and several great records. This one just doesn't really float my boat. I have to give it three stars, however, because it contains the song "A.M. 180" and that happens to be one of my favorites. Definately check out this band, but try "Sumday" or "The Sophtware Slump" first.
