Gregg Allman Receives Liver Transplant
Jun, 26 2010
Allman Brothers Band singer Gregg Allman has undergone a successful liver transplant, at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.
"I feel pretty good, considering everything that's happened," Allman said in a statement for fans. "Everybody involved here, my doctors and nurses in the hospital and all the Allman Brothers fans, they've just all been great."
Allman had been receiving treatment for Hepatitis C since 2007, brought on due to chronic liver damage attributed to years of heavy drinking. "I changed my ways years ago" Allman said, "but we can't turn back time. Every day is a gift, and I can't wait to get back on the road making music with my friends."
Allman is expected to make a full recovery, but whether he'll be fit enough to perform two scheduled solo shows in September is still unknown.
