Grizzly Bear
Sep, 5 2009
Brooklyn-based indie band Grizzly Bear have hit a peak of popularity this year, earning reams of critical praise and a career-high No.8 position on the Billboard 200 thanks to recent album Veckatimest. Jay-Z, Beyoncé and her sister Solange were all spotted enjoying a recent show in New York, after which Jay told MTV: "They're an incredible band... what the indie-rock movement is doing right now is very inspiring. It felt like us [hip-hop] in the beginning. These concerts, they're not on the radio, no one hears about them, and there's 12,000 people in attendance. And the music that they're making and the connection they're making to people is really inspiring." Former Doobie Brother Michael McDonald is full of praise for the band too, and he's recorded a lead vocal for the b-side to their new single, "While You Wait For The Others." The soft rock crooner told Paste he was a "big fan of the band" who was introduced by a mutual friend, before the band suggested he sing for them. "Their songs were alluring and interesting," McDonald said, "so when they mentioned to me about doing this, I said absolutely." Grizzly Bear are winning fans from all quarters.
