The first time I heard this track - or an alternative mix of 'At The River" as it happens - was a couple of years back on the Spanish holiday island of Ibiza. Quite simply, this is an absolutely fantastic mellow (read 'chilled') dance track. It is Groove Armada's own composition, nevertheless, something about it sounds familiar. It could possibly be based on an old 1950s instrumental, or that's the impression I got because of it's aurora of innocence. Ambient dance tracks such as "At The River" have been extremely popular over the past few years in Europe, and along with Kenobe's, "Slip Into Something More Comfortable", this track just happens to be one of the more successful and commercial hits.

To paraphrase a line taken from the song, "if you like sand dunes, and SALTY air...quaint little villages here and there" - a testament to the song's innocence - this is the perfect companion if all you want to do is chill-out. Best listened to while watching a Balaeric sunset and drinking cold San Miguel! Failing that, this works in just about any situation.

Oh, and to respond to a criticism one of the other reviewers made about the lyrics, the CD Single features instrumental mixes too.

I laugh at this song. Who'd they sample the horn from, Kenny G? Should you wish to hear the lyrics, "If you're fond of sand dunes and salt sea air/And quaint little villages here and there" endlessly repeated for minutes on end, by all means grab it. I actually felt myself aging as I listened to this swill.

I happen to like sand dunes, salt sea air and even (gasp!) quaint little villages here and there. This song just about ruined all of that for me. And what does all that have to do with rivers, anyway?

Groove Armada should be ashamed of themselves.
