Biography

Edit

Half piano-bar jazz man, half crooning pop superstar, Harry Connick Jr. has oscillated between the engaging pomp of a young Frank Sinatra and the respectful humility of an ensemble player.

His voice is smooth, with wrinkles that suggest the wisdom of an oft-broken heart, yet his fingers speak just as eloquently through the keys of a piano. Connick became known worldwide for his double platinum selling soundtrack album to When Harry Met Sally in 1989, which included standards like "It Had to Be You". After an ill-judged move into funk in the mid-90s, Connick returned to smooth balladeering, and increasingly pursued an acting career with parts in Independence Day, Hope Floats, and Will & Grace.

Harry Connick, Jr.

Oct, 31 2008

It's only just turned November but the mad annual rush into Christmas festivities has started already: Fairy lights decorate the streets, stores are displaying gift ideas and decorations, and musicians are releasing more fresh recordings of the same small group of classic Christmas songs. Sarah Brightman and Harry Connick, Jr. both release new seasonal albums this coming Tuesday, and A Winter Symphony and What A Night! A Christmas Album respectively are both expected to do well. But for the Scrooges among us there's another Christmas record which says "Bah, Humbug!" to all the others: ventriloquist comedian Jeff Dunham's Don't Come Home for Christmas stars his various popular characters, including grumpy old Walter and redneck Bubba J, singing songs like "I Hate Christmas" and "Roadkill Christmas". Some people just don't get into the spirit of things, do they?
