Henry Lee Summer (real name Henry Lee "Hank" Swartz) is an American rock guitarist and singer from Brazil, Indiana. Originally, he planned on being a basketball player, and he even received a full scholarship to play at Indiana State University (source: Billboard Book of Top Forty Singles). However, he ultimately decided to go the music route. He had several successful albums in the 1980s and a #1 rock hit single, and toured with Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eddie Money, Chicago, and Richard Marx. His number 1 mainstream rock hit was "I Wish I Had a Girl (Who Walked Like That)" (#20 on Billboard's Hot 100), originally recorded for his Time for Big Fun album, but a version was also included on his self-titled album two years later. He followed that up on his next album with the single "Hey Baby" He also served as a lighting director and stage manager for many arenas in the 1980s.
As of 2001, he was living in Indianapolis with his wife, Carrie, and four children .
In September 2006, Summer was arrested after the car he was driving crashed into several other vehicles and a mobile home in a local Indiana neighborhood. He was charged with three different misdemeanors in the incident: operating a vehicle while intoxicated, resisting arrest, and failing to stop after an accident. A statement posted on his website claimed that he had been under the influence of ambien, not alcohol at the time . Ultimately, after he later pled guilty to driving while intoxicated, two of the charges (resisting arrest and failing to stop) were dropped, and he was sentenced to a year's probation and forced to pay a fine .
On May 5, 2009, Summer was arrested in Indianapolis. He was charged with one count of meth possession, one count of obstruction of justice and two counts of resisting law enforcement. During the summer of 2009 he entered rehab for meth addiction. Henry received one year in prison (with all but 3 days suspended) and one year of probation. Henry has began to perform again in the Indianapolis area.
