Biography

Edit

Hole was formed in 1989 by Courtney Love and Eric Erlandson in LA; Love and Erlandson were the only permanent members. Hole is best known for its controversial frontwoman, Love, who has had repeated scrapes with the law and is the widow of iconic father-of-grunge, Kurt Cobain. Hole released three studio albums Pretty on the Inside (1991), Live Through This (1994) and Celebrity Skin (1998). They parted company in 2002 and currently Erlandson is working on solo projects and as a record producer, and Love has released one solo album America's Sweetheart (2004) and is currently working on a second.

Hole Not Whole

Jan, 19 2010

Hole bassist Melissa Auf der Maur has expressed her bemusement at Courtney Love's plan to record and tour again using the name Hole, but without any of the other members of the band. "After years and years of not being in touch, she contacted me about the possibility of working together," she told Spinner, "[but] I want to make it clear that I have nothing to do with this series of concerts." Auf der Mar is getting ready to release her second solo album, Out Of Our Minds, in March, but she didn't feel that was a hindrance to the band getting together again. "Artistically speaking, being the leader of my own project or the bass player in someone else's band are both equally valuable," she said. "I am surprised and disappointed that they are going to jeopardize a real Hole reunion, which I think would be great for Hole fans and fun for us, the band. It means so much to me and I'm so proud, having been a part of it. That being said, the person that anyone should be talking to right now is the Hole co-founder, Eric [Erlandson]". Hole are due to play four shows in the next couple months, in New York, Amsterdam, London and Milan, assuming they can work out who they actually are.
