English New Wave singer/songwriter best known for a string of UK hit singles & albums in the mid to late 1980s.
Born in Southampton in 1955, he first rose to prominence in September 1983 when his single "New Song" reached number 5 in the UK singles chart and number 30 on the US Billboard chart. Four further hit singles were to follow, whilst the album they came from ("Human's Lib") was a major hit on both sides of the Atlantic (eventually going double platinum in the U.K). His second album, 1986's "Dream Into Action" enjoyed similar success (number 2 in the U.K and number 10 in the U.S with 4 charting singles), but the follow up "One to One" would prove to be his last major hit, reaching number 16 in the U.K in 1988.
Although he would release several more charting singles in the next few years, his record deal with WEA would end in 1993 after the failure of his next two albums to make any impact on the charts (a fate also suffered by 1993's self-released "Working In the Back Room"). He then spent time working as a producer & songwriter for other artists and running a restaurant business, before returning to performing on a regular basis with the release of "People" on his own DTox Records label in 1998.
He celebrated the 20th anniversary of the release of "New Song" with a sell-out concert in London in 2003 and has continued to record & perform regularly since then, with his most recent album "Ordinary Heroes" being released in 2009.
