US-born crunk rapper Huey built his reputation on the underground scene before emerging in 2007 with the Notebook Paper album.
Huey was a fixture on his local St. Louis club scene, where he made his name with tracks including “Pop, Lock and Drop It” and “Oh”. A contract with Jive Records was signed, and Huey’s mixtapes, including Unsigned Hype, prepared the ground on the campus scene and beyond for his major label debut. His debut, Notebook Paper was released in 2007, and in addition to a Top 10 place in the R&B/Hip-Hop charts, it made the Top 30 of the Billboard 200 on the back of a re-recorded version of “Pop, Lock and Drop It”, and “When I Hustle”.
