Biography

Edit

Il Divo were assembled by high-trousered impresario Simon Cowell, who sought to take advantage of an under-tapped public market for operatic-pop.

Cowell gathered together a multi-national selection of attractive young male singers -- Urs Bühler, Sébastien Izambard, David Miller and Carlos Marín -- and by 2005 they had released their debut album Il Divo. The album reached the top of the charts in 13 countries, selling sufficiently to ensure double platinum status in the US alone.

Ancora was released in early 2006 (2005 in the UK) and, in keeping with their previous success, it entered the Billboard charts at No.1. They consolidated that achievement with the release of Siempre in the latter half of 2006.

Il Divo have toured extensively -- most notably with Barbra Streisand on her North American tour -- and, in 2006, played an 86-date sell-out tour across the USA, Europe and Australia. In 2007 they penned a combined autobiography called Il Divo: Our Music, Our Journey, Our Words, which has been snapped up by their many information-hungry fans.

Il Divo

Nov, 19 2008

Pop-opera quartet Il Divo return this week with their fifth album and first for two years, The Promise. Comprising French pop singer Sébastien Izambard, Spanish baritone Carlos Marín, and two tenors, Urs Bühler from Switzerland and American David Miller, Il Divo have achieved international success by mixing their own interpretations of pop standards in operatic style, with renditions of popular opera favorites. They've previously covered Toni Braxton and Bryan Adams among others, and The Promise includes versions of ABBA's "The Winner Takes It All," Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "The Power Of Love," and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." With over 20 million sales to their name already, and having won platinum discs in over sixteen countries worldwide, The Promise is sure to be another huge success.
