Imogen Heap is a singer-songwriter from Essex, England. Heap attended the prestigious London School for Performing Arts & Technology and upon leaving signed her first recording contract with independent label, Almo Sounds. Her debut album i Megaphone (1998) - an anagram of Imogen Heap -- was released to some success but never charted, unlike her second solo album Speak For Yourself which saw considerably more success. This success is possibly due to her part as one half of the short lived ambient-electronica duo Frou Frou, a collaboration with music producer Guy Sigsworth. She has also had a lot of success after contributing singles to various TV and movie soundtracks, most notably; Garden State, Shrek (both as a solo artist and with Frou Frou), The Last Kiss, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The O.C and Six Feet Under.
Her evanescent, atmospheric vocals and use of electronic manipulations throughout her music create an other-worldly sound that lends itself to tragic emotional moments in films and on television. She was nominated for two Grammys in 2006 for Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media ("Can't Take It In"), and Best New Artist. Heap is currently working on a film score for Disney as well as her third solo album, due out in early 2009.
