Biography

Edit

The Indigo Girls are Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, the folk rock singer-songwriters who got together in 1980. They are known for their socially and politically conscious lyrics.

Ray and Saliers met at while they were at high school and have been playing together since the early 80s, originally as the B-Band and then the Indigo Girls. After a couple of low key releases, they came to the attention of Epic records, who signed them up. Their self-titled debut for Epic made the Top 30, and they earned the Best Folk Recording Grammy for “Closer to Fine”. The same year, they lost out to Milli Vanilli for the Best New Artist title. They received Grammy nominations for their next two albums, and their subsequent releases have sold well, with Become You considered a fan favourite.

In addition to their careers together, Ray has released three solo albums, while Saliers is working on her debut.
