Overview Edit

SGNL>05 is an EP released by Isis which acts as an extension to their earlier full-length album Celestial. Many themes found in Celestial return on this record, such as the control tower and female character themes referenced in tracks "Divine Mother (The Tower Crumbles)" and "Constructing Towers". The themes of the other major Isis releases expand upon these ideas also.

Using the style he pioneered with his work in Godflesh and now Jesu, Justin Broadrick reinterpreted the title track from Celestial into a new revision. It is presented on this EP as the closing track, an end to this chapter in the Isis discography considering the epic feel and experimental structure of the reworking that clearly foreshadows the direction the band would eventually take musically. The band has performed a version of the song "Celestial" live several times which fuses the original song and this remix together into a massive 16-minute rendition titled "Celestial (Ext/Alt)" on the Live.02 LP.

In addition to the standard CD and vinyl LP editions, SGNL>05 is available in a combined, deluxe release with its companion full-length, Celestial.

5 stars Isis' Best EP
I believe this is the finest EP by this amazingly innovative band. It contains 4 real songs and an intro. It is a great addition or extension of "Celestial" so if you like that, you're sure to enjoy this. And it is 35 minutes long, which is as long as some bands' full albums.

The first track is an intro, and sounds similar to Celestial's intro. Then The first real song goes on starts with a crushing riff and soon enough the vocals appear. The song continutes for a while as a sluggish, crunchy, …

3 stars Buy Celestial before you get this cdEP
While this typifies Isis's sound and the direction in which they are headed with their upcoming Oceanic album, I was really confused when I picked this up, because it was the first Isis CD I had gotten. I didn't realize this was being marketed as a companion CD to Celestial (Hence the tracklisting) - The opening track is just a throwback to the noise segues on Celestial; Divine Mother (The Tower Crumbles) is undoubtedly the only really "heavy" song on the CD, but is a good example of some expans…
