Jackson Browne was born in Germany to American parents. He returned to America when he was little. His musical career began early, as he sang in folk clubs around his local area. By 1972 his precocious writing talent had earned him a recording contract and he released his debut album Jackson Browne. On it he collaborated with David Crosby who sang the harmony on "Jamaica Say You Will" and "Doctor My Eyes", the latter hit No. 8 on the Billboard charts. His next album For Everyman (1973) contained "Take It Easy", a song which became better known as the first hit for the Eagles.
His breakthrough album was The Pretender which was his first to hit the Billboard Top 5. Penned after the suicide of his first wife, it lent a new creative drive to a man already known for his insightful and personal lyrics. He followed this success with his best selling album to date, 1977's 7x platinum Running On Empty.
Towards the end of the 70s he became politically active and formed the anti-nuclear organization "MUSE" (Musicians United for Safe Energy). This political polemic would find its way into future albums such as Lawyers in Love (1983) and Lives in the Balance (1986).
In all, he has released thirteen albums, the most recent of which is 2005's Solo Acoustic Vol 1.
