Film score composer James Newton Howard was born in LA in 1951. He is M. Night Shyamalan's composer of choice and has worked on a host of films, picking up awards and plaudits along the way.
Howard studied classical music at college but realised that he was never going to be committed to it as a career. He turned to popular music eventually becoming a session musician for artists including Ringo Star and Carly Simon. As his reputation spread he was invited to join Elton John and toured with him on and off from 1975 to the mid 1980s, recording on John's albums including Rock of the Westies and Ice on Fire.
In 1983 Howard got the opportunity to play keyboards for the Twilight Zone: The Movie. This was to open the door to the career for which he would become most famous. He went on to provide the scores for popular and successful films including Pretty Woman, Sixth Sense, King Kong and Blood Diamond.
