Biography

Edit

Jason Mraz is an American singer-songwriter born in 1977, whose eclectic style incorporates elements of jazz, folk and country.

After the independent release of several albums, he signed to Elektra Records in 2002 having served his apprenticeship playing the clubs and coffee shops of Southern California. His debut album, Waiting for My Rocket to Come performed well, achieving platinum status and spawning several successful singles, including "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)". By 2005 he was opening for Alanis Morissette and he released his second album, Mr A-Z, later that year. For the ensuing year he spent time touring, but by 2007 was in the studio again, recording a song for Ugly Betty called "The Beauty in Ugly" and preparing for his next studio album, planned for release in 2008.

Jason Mraz

Aug, 21 2009

Last week we reported that Jason Mraz and the Black Eyed Peas had both equaled Billboard chart records, for 'most consecutive weeks on the Hot 100' and 'most consecutive weeks at No.1' respectively. As expected, both artists have now broken those records. Mraz's "I'm Yours" has now spent an astonishing 70 weeks on the Hot 100, beating LeAnn Rimes' previous record of 69 weeks for "How Do I Live?". That record is set to be extended further because the song is on a fresh upswing: it jumped twelve places this week, from No.35 to No.23. Meanwhile an eighth week at No.1 for the Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" makes it a combined 20 consecutive weeks that they've now been on top of the Hot 100, following on from the twelve week reign of "Boom Boom Pow." How long can this dominance go on? Snapping at the Peas' heels is Miley Cyrus, whose "Party In The U.S.A." reached No.2, the highest Hot 100 position yet for the Disney star. Jay-Z's new song, "Run This Town" featuring Kanye West and Rihanna, hit No.3.
