He debuted in the Asian underground scene as a member of the Rishi Rich Project with "Dance with You", which reached #12 on the UK Singles Chart in 2003. The Black-Eyed Peas have finally been unseated from the top of the Hot 100, and the unlikely usurper is a previously unknown British-Indian singer called Kamaljit Singh Jhooti. Going by the stage name Jay Sean, his debut U.S. single "Down" featuring Lil Wayne jumped from No.2 to No.1 this week, displacing the Peas after a record 26 week on top. The Peas have dominated the charts for the entire summer, first with "Boom Boom Pow" which topped the Hot 100 for 12 weeks, then with "I Gotta Feeling," which took the baton and held on to it for 14 weeks. "Down" wasn't the only song to perform better than "I Gotta Feeling" this week: "Party In The U.S.A." by Miley Cyrus, Jay-Z's "Run This Town" and Jason DeRulo's "Whatcha Say" knocked it all the way down to No.5. But Jay Sean's reign at the top might be short-lived - Lady GaGa's "Paparazzi" is fast on the ascendancy, hitting No.6 this week, and could be challenging for top honors next week; and then there's Britney, whose new single "3" is being tipped to make a big debut. It can't jump straight in at No.1 though, can it?
