Overview Edit

License to Chill is the 26th studio album by American singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett and was released in 2004. It is his album to reach #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart. License to Chill, released on 13 July 2004, sold 238,600 copies in its first week of release according to Nielsen SoundScan.

On this album, Buffett has many duets with noted country music artists, on country songs including "Hey Good Lookin’" by Hank Williams. This rendition reached #8 on the Billboard country singles charts; another single, "Trip Around the Sun" (a duet with Martina McBride) reached #20.

This is also the name of his 2004 concert tour, which included two shows at Boston's Fenway Park. In November 2005, Mailboat Records released Live at Fenway Park, a live recording of the two shows. Included was a 55 minute DVD of the show.

5 stars A smooth crossover - - - well done, Bubba.
As a long time phan of Jimmy Buffett, I was curious about his new country collaboration. LICENSE TO CHILL does not disappoint.

All the voices on HEY, GOOD LOOKIN' do their part to make it a rousing success, sure to get plenty of air time. BOATS TO BUILD is reflective and Alan Jackson's soulfulness rounds it out perfectly.

The title cut will probably be the next "single" release. Jimmy and Kenny have a good time and I like the tune, but I think it could have been better. Couldn't say how, it just…

3 stars Fun but not fabulous
Not the best from Jimmy. It's fun, but it isn't that "brings a smile to your face" music we're so used to from him. He moves a lot more toward the country than he does pull the country to him. And, maybe that was his intention. It just didn't really appeal to me as much. I'm sure as the newness wears off I'll find myself listening to my other Buffett CDs a lot more often that this one. Still, worth the purchase.
