Biography

Edit

James Patrick Page, OBE (born 9 January 1944) is an English guitarist, songwriter, and record producer. He began his career as a studio session guitarist in London and was subsequently a member of The Yardbirds from 1966 to 1968, after which he founded the English rock band Led Zeppelin.

Page is described by Allmusic as "unquestionably one of the all-time most influential, important, and versatile guitarists and songwriters in rock history" and by Rolling Stone as "the pontiff of power riffing & probably the most digitally sampled artist in pop today after James Brown." He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, once as a member of The Yardbirds (1992) and once as a member of Led Zeppelin (1995). In 2010, Page was ranked #2 on Gibson's "Top 50 Guitarists of All Time".

Jimmy Page Sells Out

Oct, 25 2010

If you're Justin Bieber, being 16 years old and just out of school is no reason to hold off releasing an autobiography: his First Step 2 Forever was published last month. If you're guitar god Jimmy Page, on the other hand, with an extra half-century of living to consider including decades as a world famous rock star, it takes a bit longer to put together: his imaginatively titled Jimmy Page by Jimmy Page is out next month, and the long wait has at least ensured a sell-out reception. Publishers Genesis have announced that there are no copies left of Jimmy Page by Jimmy Page, despite its high cost of £495 ($780). The 512 page books, which are bound in leather and wrapped in silk, include over 650 images of Page throughout his career with the Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin and later. He's also written text to accompany each photo. Although many books have been written about Led Zeppelin, Page's book is the first to be written by any Led Zep member. Unfortunately no excerpts have yet been published, so the only way to read Page's version of events is to pony up.
