Black Country Divided Before Their Debut
Apr, 28 2010
Traditionally, one of the main difficulties of any supergroup project is managing to squeeze all the egos into one room for long enough to record the music; after all, a supergroup ain’t a supergroup unless each of the individuals involved has a history of fame and success. That certainly appears to be the problem for Black Country, which features guitarist/singer Joe Bonamassa, bassist/singer Glenn Hughes ( Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Trapeze), drummer Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin, Foreigner, UFO, ) and keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Alice Cooper, KISS).
The facts of the fuss emerged during a series of Facebook posts from producer Kevin Shirley. "Black Country looks to have imploded, with a completed album in the can!” he wrote. “We set out as friends and lovers of music, to make something special. Then the managers got involved... and kept changing their wants, ultimately demanding everything!”. Shirley went on to absolve Bonamassa and Hughes of any blame, but concluded: “cut out the cancer that is anyone greedy, and this thing will rock.”
The debut is recorded and ready to go, and planned for release in September – but only if the band can settle their differences.
