David Jackson - who later performed under the name Joe because he was said to look like the puppet Joe 90 - is an English singer-songwriter and pianist who enjoyed his main success in the late 70s and early 80s. His first album, Look Sharp! (1979) was a firm favourite with critics and did reasonably well in the charts too, helped by the success of lead single "Is She Really Going Out With Him?". His second album I'm The Man (1979) was also praised by reviewers, and reached No.12 in the UK charts. His fifth album, Night and Day (1982), marked a change of direction for Jackson, moving from his punky new-wave roots towards an adult contemporary style. It was a no.4 album in the US (no.3 in the UK), and two singles - "Steppin' Out" and "Breaking Us In Two" -- were Top 20 hits. Jackson has continued to record and tour since, with several albums charting in both America and Britain, though to little critical notice.
