Great Music! Great CD!This is actually a 1988 recording from the Peter Wohlert Orchestra of concerto pieces. The best and probably most recognizable of the Brandenburg Concertos is No. 3 in G Major. Film historians may remember it being the background music for the soundtrack of 1920's DER GOLEM starring Paul Wegener.The composition is lushly beautiful and brings to mind blossoming landscapes, and in some ways the film DER GOLEM itself. This is the best recording I could find. So the price alone is worth it.
Doesn't do full justiceThis isn't the best recording of the Brandenburg Concerti available. The performance is plodding, overly technical, deficient in energy, lacking a real sense of the "ensemble" a good Bach performance needs, not as graceful and uplifting as the music demands. Background "clicks" can also be heard occasionally. The "bonus" piece, the Concerto for Harpsichord, Strings and Continuo in D major at the end of the disc, comes on too forcefully with the downbeats -- a bit like the opening chords of The W…
