Overview Edit

Revival is a 2007 studio album by American roots rock singer-songwriter/guitarist John Fogerty, and is his first new album in three years. The album is also the third album (the first two were compilation and live albums) since rejoining Fantasy Records. It was released on October 2, 2007 (see 2007 in music).

The cover design echoes the silhouette design of Fogerty's first solo album The Blue Ridge Rangers. The first single from the album was "Don't You Wish It Was True." The album contains two war protest songs, "Long Dark Night" and "I Can't Take It No More," both of which speak out against the Bush administration and the Iraq War. The latter song contains a lyric that refers to one of his hits with CCR, by referring to Bush as a "Fortunate Son." Also this song sounds like Ramones-style punk rock, because Fogerty has continued experimentation with that sound (in mode of "She's Got Baggage" from Deja Vu (All Over Again)). Another song, "Summer Of Love" is a tribute to The Cream and Jimi Hendrix, it has a musical citation from "Sunshine of Your Love". "Creedence Song" reminds of CCR's swamp rock.

The album debuted at number 14 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling about 65,000 copies in its first week.

The album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album of 2008, but it lost to Foo Fighters's Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace. This album was #11 on Rolling Stone's list of the Top 50 Albums of 2007. This song "Gunslinger" was #12 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007.

5 stars Back In The Saddle
I think we have finally found the lost ingredient missing from today's pop music. For a while, John Fogerty provided the greatest pop songs in the United States of America. His recordings with Creedence Clearwater Revival represent some of the most universally beloved songs that ever hit the airwaves. They were simple, but they were damn good, and will probably still sound great in 3007. It is easy, though, to underestimate the talent that it takes to create something so pure and simple, and yet…

3 stars If you are a big Fogerty fan
I am not sure where I heard the recommendation to preorder this album but now that I am just getting around to listening to it, I'd have to agree with the statement that this is only an album big Fogerty/CCR fans will love. I in fact would probably include myself as a big CCR fan and even I find the album "average." I like the CCR feel of the album (which I assume lends itself to the title of the album as in a revival of Creedence Clearwater Revival)compared to say "Centerfield." But I think "Ce…
