John Powell is the UK born film score composer, best known for his work on Shrek, Mr & Mrs Smith and the Bourne series of films.
He spent his formative years studying composition at the Trinity College of Music in London, graduating to a job writing music for TV adverts with Air -Edel. The company also had film score composers Hans Zimmer and Patrick Doyle on its books, he worked with Doyle on his first film score, Into The West.
In 1995 he set up Independently Thinking Music with college mate Gavin Greenaway, where they wrote music for UK and French TV ads. Having established himself, Powell relocated to Hollywood in 1997 and has since written scores for a long list of successful films, including The Italian Job, Robots, Face/Off and Ice Age: The Meltdown.
