Biography

Edit

John Zorn may not be particularly high in the public consciousness, but his output is vast and broad in scope. His compositions explore and experiment with a huge number of musical genres and this is facilitated by the fact that he is a talented multi-instrumentalist. Part of his output includes extravagant improvisations and interpretations of the work of other musical greats such as Ennio Morricone and Henry Mancini.

Though he has several solo albums to his name, he appears on the credits for others and has collaborated with many other people including Mike Patton from Faith No More and the Kronos Quartet. He also led the bands Naked City and Painkiller (both of whom created a strange fusion of thrash and hardcore with jazz and classical works) and Masada (an exploration of Jewish heritage). Both bands have released albums. His work has also been used for underground films and documentaries and he has created many classical music compositions.
