Perry's Journey At An End
Nov, 13 2010
Earlier this week it was reported Journey’s original lead singer, Steve Perry, had asked to rejoin the band, despite being absent since 1998.
The report may have originated when London’s Daily Star ran a piece claiming Perry had asked to rejoin Journey after seeing “Don’t Stop Believing” performed on the hit TV show Glee. The band has enjoyed renewed success after the same song was featured in the series finale of The Sopranos. The article quoted current Journey guitarist Neal Schon saying: “[Perry] seems to be enjoying the spotlight a little too much. The fact is he’s no longer the lead singer. He walked out.”
In 1987, Journey, after touring for ten years and releasing nine albums, went on hiatus. They didn’t re-form until 1995 and Perry only lasted for one album. From 1998 and 2007, Journey went through several leads before hiring Filipino singer Arnel Pineda of the cover band Zoo, after Schon saw him on YouTube singing covers of Journey songs.
A representative said the band’s upcoming album is scheduled for a 2011 release and there will be a world tour to support it. It’s estimated the band has sold 75 million albums worldwide.
