Julieta Venegas is the Mexican singer-songwriter, whose success has earned her two Latin Grammys and one Grammy. She is part of the Rock en Español movement who promote contemporary work sung in Spanish.
Venegas was born in Tijuana as a child she learned to play the piano and went on to study music theory and singing at the Escuela de Musica del Noroeste. A move to Mexico City for the opportunities that the city provided worked out, and while performing on the local club scene she came to the attention of BMG who signed her for debut album Aquí. The album was well received and she promoted it by touring with other Mexican bands in the US and Spain. The Rock en Español follow-up, Bueninvento, earned her the Latin Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album.
More touring, followed by a change in style to pop-rock for Sí, won a legion of new fans, and took the album to triple-platinum in Mexico alone. It also had three No.1 singles on the Latin Charts, and earned her a Latin Grammy. With Limón y Sal came crossover success and she picked up the Best Latin Pop award at the Grammys and another Latin Grammy for Best Alternative Album. In addition to her own success she has also written songs for Paulina Rubio, Miguel Bosé and Los Tigres del Norte.
