Young singer-songwriter Kate Nash emerged as a protégé-of-sorts of Lily Allen, after Allen recommended Nash's Myspace page. The singers are often compared, due to their pronounced London accents, their narrative styles which are heavy on London slang, and because they both emerged thanks to the aforementioned social networking website. Her first limited-edition single, "Caroline's A Victim", became very popular online and earned Nash gigs all around Britain. Her second single, "Foundations", unexpectedly reached No.2 in the British charts in the summer of 2007. To capitalise on this success the record label brought forward the release of debut album Made of Bricks by six weeks: it topped the charts, selling over 50,000 copies. However, it was met with very mixed reviews, with some critics suggesting it sounded rushed. Nash's third single (second on wide release) "Mouthwash" reached No.23 in the charts.
